This Is How To Use Coconut Oil And Baking Soda To Look 10 Years Younger

If wrinkles and sagging facial skin are making you problems, you should try the following natural cleanser.

The combination of coconut oil and baking soda is capable of cleansing your skin deeply, penetrating into the pores and effectively eliminating the acne and blackheads. It exfoliates your skin, removes extra dirt and oil and heals any skin issue.

Baking soda can be used in many different purposes, including aesthetic ones. Some people think that it can be used only for baking and cleaning, but it is strong deodorizing and polishing agent as well. Baking soda is good substitution for the chemical cleaning products. Anyway, people started to use it as a cosmetic product long time ago. Not only it can treat acne and similar skin issues, but it also normalizes the pH of the skin and keeps you safe from further similar problems.

Coconut oil moisturizes the skin and provides it with antibacterial characteristics which is good for its overall health.

Ingredients:
2 teaspoons of extra virgin coconut oil
1 teaspoon of baking soda

Preparation:

Combine the ingredients in some bowl and mix them well until you get a paste. Apply the resulting paste on the desired area. Leave it to work for 5 minutes and then wash it off with warm water. Massage the treated area at the end. The coconut oil will hydrate the skin, which means that shouldn’t apply a moisturizer when the procedure is done.

How to Get Better Posture Experts'Simple Tips

How to Get Better Posture Experts'Simple Tips

Your mother may have always told you to “sit up straight” for good reason; poor posture not only signals a lack of confidence, but can also be bad for your health. When you’re not sitting or standing up straight, your muscles and ligaments must struggle to align and keep your body upright. This naturally leads to back pain, but can also cause tension headaches, neck pain, muscle strain and joint pain. Luckily, these ills can be remedied with just a little behavior change.

Standing Properly
To avoid looking like someone out of the early stages of human evolution, abide by these six tips for good standing posture:
1. Stand relaxed (do not lock your knees), but keep your shoulders back.
2. Tighten your core so that your abdomen is pulled in, but not to the point that you’re straining.
3. Keep your butt tucked under your hips so that your pelvis stays aligned.
4. Feet should be forward and aligned directly below each of your hips with your weight evenly distributed between feet.
5. Arms and hands should be loosely at your sides in a natural stance.
6. Lift your chin slightly so that your head is straight.

None of these motions should be too harsh or tight; you should feel relaxed, but aligned. If it helps, imagine a string going from the top of your head down your body all the way to the ground between your feet.

If you’re having to stand for a while, physical therapist Michelle Davidson  recommends standing with your feet a little further apart than usual with one foot more in front of the other. By doing this she says you will be taking some of the strain off your back, which will help prevent tension and pain in the area.

If you’re unsure if you’re hitting the posture-perfect marks, test it out. Back up against a wall until your hand, shoulder blades and butt touch the wall. Your feet should remain a few inches apart, again, under your hips. Next, reach your hand against the wall behind the curve of your lower back, the lumbar curve. There should be just enough space for your hand to fit; if there’s more, focus on tightening your core. If there’s not enough space, your back should be arched comfortably to achieve proper alignment.

Sitting Properly
Learning to sit properly is crucial to obtaining and maintaining good posture. First, you should select a chair that will allow you to have both feet firmly on the floor with your knees in line with your hips. You should sit with your shoulders back but relaxed and against the back of the chair, making sure your lower back meets with the back of the chair. You should lift your chin lightly so that your head is level with your neck in a relaxed, straight position.

Again, imagining a string going from the tip of your head down your neck, your upper back and lower back can help achieve this torso alignment. You may feel ridged or stiff at first, but eventually your body and muscles will get used to sitting properly and it will become natural for you.

5 Ways You Might Be Hurting Your Lady Parts

5 Ways You Might Be Hurting Your Lady Parts

Vaginas are a lot of work — or at least, that’s how it seems. There’s all the hair removal (if that's what you're into) and period maintenance. Taking care of one is kind of a thankless, messy part-time job. But the vagina is a pretty amazing thing, despite all the maintenance that some of us go through for it. And even though all that work gets old fast, many of us still do it religiously. But should we? The hard truth is that a lot of the stuff we do to our vaginas in the name of hygiene and beauty is unnecessary. In some cases, it’s even dangerous.

Emergency rooms have seen a five-fold increase in lacerations and other vaginal injuries caused by hair removal alone. I know, I know — It's scary. Most of these injuries were caused by shaving. And when you think about it, it’s surprising that those of us who shave haven’t all landed sunny side up on a doctor’s table in the ER. I mean, we’re regularly standing in perilous positions, often in slippery showers, holding sharp razor blades to our lady parts. And that’s just one of the myriad ways in which we’re not being good friends to our vaginas. We also put them through a lot in the name of fashion, sex, and family. Here are some examples of ways we’re damaging our vaginas, with suggestions on how to make nice. Because life is better with a happy vagina.

1. Grooming
Body hair, especially pubic hair, is such a divisive issue, both in terms of feminism and fashion. When I worked at Planned Parenthood, a magical midwife told me that women would save themselves so much heartache if they just trimmed their bikini lines instead of ripping everything out. Skin infections, ingrown hairs, wax burns, chemical burns, nicks and cuts, relentless itching — these are the things you put your lady bits through in the quest for smoothness. Not to mention the occasional "OMG, I hope this is a pimple and not herpes!" You do you, of course, but maybe be a little careful next time you're doing some grooming down under.

How to Tell If You're Normal Down There

How to Tell If You're Normal Down There

Right there among life's great questions, like "Is there an afterlife?" and "Why did I have to memorize the annual agricultural output of Nebraska in middle school?" lies perhaps the most daunting, most pressing question of them all: "Is my vagina normal?" Well, you can stop worrying, because the answer is yes — and no. See, there is not really any such thing as a normal vagina. Like the leprechaun or the CHUD, the idea of there being one kind of "normal vagina" is a total myth.

Despite the things you may have seen in porn or heard from some of your more weirdly judgmental friends, vaginas — a term which people often use to refer to both the internal vagina itself and the vulva, the set of external genitals that includes the clitoris and the labia — come in an IKEA's worth of sizes, shapes, colors, and other physical variations. However wrinkly or smooth or flappy or bumpy your vagina is, it is a normal vagina.

However, since so many of us have been taught that an healthy or attractive vulva looks a very specific way — short, thin inner labia that don't protrude, with a small, visible clitoris, light-toned skin, and a lack of vaginal discharge — it can be easy to get worried that a partner won't find your junk attractive ... or even worse, that you're having a health problem just because your Georgia O'Keefe doesn't look like all the vaginas you keep seeing on Tumblr.

Odds are that your vagina is A-OK. But just to give you some piece of mind, here's our guide to the different shapes and sizes vaginas and vulvas can come in (as well as a few signs that things are actually not well down below). Are you ready? People, let's learn about our fun-caves!

7 Vaginal Hygiene Mistakes

7 Vaginal Hygiene Mistakes

We at Bustle love giving you tips for how to tap into your sexual potential and troubleshoot when things aren’t going your way in the bedroom. But what about finding solutions to those stressful sexual health situations that inevitably crop up when you’re getting down? Emma Kaywin, a Brooklyn-based sexual health writer and activist, is here to calm your nerves and answer your questions. No gender, sexual orientation, or question is off limits, and all questions will remain anonymous. Please send your questions to tips@bustle.com. This week’s topic: vaginal hygiene.

Q: I'm a full-grown woman, but I'm embarrassed to say that I still don't really understand how to maintain vaginal cleanliness. How often do I have to clean down there, and with what? Are there things I shouldn't be doing or using? Sometimes I feel like when I've gotten a yeast infection, the culprit is some product I'm using, or maybe some way I'm washing, but I've honestly never looked into it. Tell me how to keep my vagina clean, please!

A: Practicing vaginal hygiene is definitely important for the overall health of humans who have them. The good news is that vaginas are self-cleaning. Where things get more complicated is that there are so many products out there saying otherwise — that we need to change the smell of our vaginas, or somehow alter their natural states. This is not only a low-down marketing ploy, but it can also cause some pretty unpleasant side effects, which (not to speak on its behalf but ...) your pussy will not like. All au naturale rants aside, how do you make sure your special parts stay as healthy as possible? Here are the big mistakes to avoid.

7 Vaginal Hygiene Mistakes You Might Be Making
1. You're Wiping Back To Front

Here's hoping that someone in your life told you early on to wipe front to back. But if you missed the memo, learn this practice right now. Why? Your vagina and butt both have bacteria living in them, all of which are important to the overall functioning of those areas, but separately. The bacteria in your vagina are not the same as the ones in your butt. You do not want to get butt bacteria in your pussy! It can cause all sorts of problems, which I'll get into below. The same goes for if you’re playing around in both of those areas sexually — assign a hand to each, or wash your hands / naughty bits / toys between sessions.

Ask The Experts: How Do I Get Rid Of Hangnail?

Ask The Experts: How Do I Get Rid Of Hangnail?

There is pretty much nothing worse than sitting at your desk at 10 AM, looking down at your hands, and finding a hangnail (except maybe if this happens at 9 AM). How in the world are you supposed to let that distracting, and yet all-too-familiar, foe just hang out there all day? If you happen to be in an environment where antibacterial soap, olive oil, cuticle scissors and liquid bandages are readily available, you can skip the next few sentences. If not, summon every ounce of patience and self-restraint you can muster, because we received these strict orders from celebrity fashion manicurist Nia Cooper: DO NOT pull it out or bite it. Yes, we preserved her use of all caps for dramatic effect. Put a bandage on the little devil, so you won’t be tempted to touch it throughout the rest of the day. Once you get home, follow Cooper’s four-step instructions for how to get rid of a hangnail:
Thoroughly wash your hands with antibacterial soap and warm water.
Soak your nail in warm olive oil for 10 minutes to soften the hangnail.

Dip the points of your cuticle scissors in rubbing alcohol. Then cut the hangnail at the base.
After it has been removed, apply a liquid bandage product over the area. They provide an antibiotic and protective seal all in one. Keeping the area covered while it’s healing will prevent infection.
Now that the pesky hangnail is gone, make good use of Cooper’s prevention tips to keep it from coming back:

Do not bite your nails.
Drink lots of water to prevent dry nails.
Exfoliate your hands every other night, paying close attention to the cuticles, to remove dead skin.
Keep your hands and nails moisturized at all times. (Looking for a new hand cream? We love Lancôme Absolute Hand Treatment during the day because it has SPF 15. At night, we’ve been turning to The Body Shop Almond Hand & Nail Butter. Remember: keeping your hands moisturized is also important for keeping them looking young.)

The Way You Should Be Showering ( And Why )

The Way You Should Be Showering ( And Why )

Sure, you’ve mastered the 3-minute shower — you’re in, you’re out, you feel clean – you consider it a success. But your shower routine can and should be more than just an exercise in good hygiene. Strategic showering will put you on the fast track for healthy, shiny hair and clear, glowing skin.

1. Brush Your Hair First
Detangling prior to showering is key because wet hair is weaker and prone to breakage. That means you should avoid the urge to rake through any tangles while conditioning too. Just start brushing the ends and work your way up to the roots while you’re waiting for the water to warm up.

2. Rinse Thoroughly
Before you rush in to lathering up those locks, be sure to give them a good, thorough rinse under warm water. Take at least 10 seconds to loosen dirt and oil and open up the cuticle, prepping hair for what’s next.

3. Lather the Right Way
A proper shampoo job should take about 30-60 seconds. But don’t just plop the product on top of your head and start scrubbing. To distribute the shampoo across the roots evenly, pour a quarter-sized dollop into your hands and gently massage it in using a back and forth motion. You don’t need to shampoo the whole head — never scrub fragile ends, but don’t forget the nape of the neck. The roots there can actually collect the most oil. When your time is up, squeeze the lather down the length of your hair then rinse until the water runs clear of suds.

4. Condition Quickly
Squeeze excess water out of hair and form a loose pony with your hand, smoothing a cherry-sized drop of conditioner through the lower half of your ponytail. This way, the conditioner is concentrated around your ends and not your roots, which can make your hair appear greasy. Your hair only needs a few seconds to soak up the benefits of your conditioner, so unless you’re using your weekly deep conditioning mask, you can rinse it out right away.

5. Cleanse Your Body
If you’re finding breakouts on your back, leftover conditioner may be to blame. So be sure to wash your body after your hair. Steer clear of traditional soaps, which can be irritating and drying to the skin. Choose a non-soap hydrating cleanser, like Kiehl’s Crème de Corps Nurturing Body Washing Cream or The Body Shop Cocoa Butter Creamy Body Wash, and use your hands to hit all the key areas. Loofahs and washcloths can become breeding grounds for bacteria and mold, so when you need exfoliation, do it with one of these full-body exfoliators instead.

6. Shave Smarter
If you’re going to shave, it should be one of the last steps in your routine. On days when you’re also due for some exfoliation, scrub before you shave to help release any ingrown hairs. And remember to always use a sharp razor. Dry it off and store it outside of the shower after every use.

7. Save Your Face for Last
And finally, it’s time to take advantage of the giant steamer that’s been opening up your pores and loosening all that acne-causing sebum. Wait until you’re completely finished shampooing to ensure you’re washing away any and all pore-clogging product runoff. Just turn the water temperature to lukewarm to protect the delicate skin on your face and do your final rinse in cool water to seal the hair cuticle and leave your complexion perfectly refreshed.

Are you a shower pro or did you just now learn the error of your ways? Tell us what you’ve been doing wrong (and right!) in the comments below.

The Most Effective Home Remedy for Cellulite with Castor Oil

The Most Effective Home Remedy for Cellulite with Castor Oil

Cellulite is a dimpled look of the skin. It is mainly caused by the pressing down of the damaged connective tissues which coat the fat layer of your body by the layer of fat cells beneath the outer walls of your skin. The single remedy the US Food and Drug Administration approved is the application of handheld therapy massage on the skin in order to break the fat layer into several sections which are called Endermologie. This method was introduced from Europe. There are numerous posts over the internet offering remedies for treating cellulite; among the given remedies is the use of castor oil on the surface area of your skin where you have the dimpled like skin otherwise cellulite.

Cellulite and Circulation

More so, there are different theories regarding the causes of cellulite. Micelle Pick, who is the founder of Women To Women Clinic, suggest that insufficient blood flow and lymph fluid in the connective tissues make the fat cells beneath lose their elasticity, get weakened and also tightened. She further revealed that under normal condition, capillaries should provide fresh nutrient-rich blood to the skin and the lymph. therefore, they will take away waste and toxins from the body, but when this blood flow doesn't happen correctly, this will result in the surrounding tissues starved and weaken.

The Lymphatic System

Moreover, for a better understanding of cellulite, it's important to know what lymph system is and how it functions. This lymphatic system is accountable for removing waste and excess  fluid from the cells and the tissue in between them. Plus, it helps the circulatory system to carry to the cells and tissues the necessary nutrients, hormones and oxygen. Thus, if the lymph drainage is slow, this will lead to the buildup of fluid and the cells will starve of oxygen and nutrients. One of the holistic practitioners in this field David G. William states that since the buildup of fluid outside the cells causes the tissues to stretch, it'll be more difficult to adjust it when the stretching is allowed to last for a long time.

Castor Oil and Lymph Flow

Nevertheless, it's been observed that castor oil has many health benefits which range from
functioning as a laxative,
pain reliever,
preventing of virus, bacteria, and even yeast growth,
stimulating the lymphatic system.

Beauty Beginners The Smart Girl's Guide to Contouring

Beauty Beginners The Smart Girl's Guide to Contouring

I hope you’ve all been enjoying my new Beauty Beginners series! So far, I’ve shared my basic tips for applying lipstick and foundation. And today, we’re going to take a deeper dive as I go over my tips for how to contour. If you’ve never tried contouring before, it’s actually a lot easier than you might think. You don’t have to go to the extreme and paint your entire face different shades—you can make it as simple as you’d like. Here’s my beginners guide to contouring…

Make Bronzer Your Best Friend

Like I said above, you don’t need to go out and buy 10 different shades of foundation in order to successfully contour your face. In fact, all you really need is a great bronzer. You can use liquid or powder bronzers, but if you’re really serious about defining your cheekbones, nose and jawline, you might want to look into buying a liquid bronzer. It will also blend in a little easier if your skin type is dry. Apply your foundation as you normally would before beginning to contour (read about my beginners guide to foundation here).

Choose the Right Color

Just as choosing the right foundation is important, choosing the right bronzer color is key for a natural, contoured look. As a rule of thumb, I always opt for a bronzer that’s only about two shades darker than my natural skin tone (I love this one and this one). I find that this looks most natural and actually allows me to layer without looking cakey or orange.

Get the Correct Tools

If you’re going to use a liquid bronzer for contouring, a makeup blending sponge works best. And if you’re going to use a powder bronzer, an angled brush or a flat brush is best for giving your cheekbones that coveted depth. Layering powder bronzer over your liquid bronzer will actually give your skin a finished look—you just might have to practice a few times to get the hang of it!

Ready, Set, Contour…

Once you have the correct bronzer and the correct makeup tools, you’re ready to contour. Start by sweeping your bronzer where the sun hits your face—on your nose, across your forehead, on your cheekbones and around your jawline. Make sure to use light, sweeping strokes so you don’t get too heavy. The darkest application of your bronzer should start from your hairline, sweeping out toward your cheeks. Then, sweep a lighter application across your cheek and back to your ears. My most important tip? Don’t use too much. Bronzer looks best when it’s understated and just gives you a sun-kissed glow.

Hair Removal At Home Made Easy!

Hair Removal At Home Made Easy!

If there’s one thing we love, it’s a good DIY beauty treatment. And yet: if there’s one personal care to-do that’s trickiest to do at home, it’s waxing. That’s why we’re huge fans of Bliss, the brand known for translating its world-famous spa treatments into products that make at-home beauty upkeep a whole lot easier. One thing Bliss does particularly well? Hair removal! We’ve already tried (and love!) ‘Fuzz’ Off, their cream designed to eradicate facial hair, so we had to see if we could get similarly smooth results on the rest of the body with their Poetic Waxing Kit. All you need is the kit, a microwave, and some unwanted fuzz growth.

While we tried out the product on arms, it works almost anywhere: arms, legs, upper lip, chin, cheeks, underarms, bikini line, and more. If you’re interested in trying it out, pick up the kit and follow along through each step. We also threw in some tips we learned from trial-and-error, and from the included instructions booklet. (Don’t proceed without reading it—there’s important safety in there!)

1: Prep your wax
The wax comes in a special microwaveable cup. Pop the whole thing in the microwave for 30 seconds (don’t worry—if you don’t use it all, you can just let the remaining portion harden and set aside for future use). Remove (from the handle, so you don’t burn yourself) and stir with an included spatula. Repeat the 30-second mic-and-stir intervals about six times, until the wax has a honey-like consistency. If the wax is too thin, let it cool and thicken in the microwave before taking it out.

We're convinced only masochists look forward to a bikini wax, but you may need to take care of business before your next Summer weekend beach trip. But it doesn't have to hurt quite so badly. There are ways you can reduce the pain. If you're new to waxing, start out with a professional to see how it's done. After a few times, you might want to try doing it at home to save a few bucks. Either way, to learn how to keep pain at bay, keep reading.

Plan to wax after your period. Your pain threshold is higher in the week after your period than beforehand. Think of it like this: if sappy commercials make you cry when you're premenstrual, having wax applied to your dainty bits certainly will.

Lose your self-consciousness. Yes, a stranger is going to see you wearing, at most, a paper thong. Don't worry about offending her or feeling embarrassed. It's nothing she hasn't seen before. The less anxious you are, the less you'll worry about pain.

Start off slowly. Your first bikini wax is not the time to try a Brazilian. If you're new to waxing, go with a basic bikini wax. If you want to remove more, there's always next time.

Exfoliate. The day before you decide to wax, exfoliate in the shower. This will remove dead skin, allowing the wax to grip shorter hairs.

Speak up. A good esthetician will work with you to make sure you're as comfortable as you can be. Don't be too shy to say something if you have a low pain tolerance — it's better to speak up than to suffer in silence.

Use hard wax. Hard wax is gentler than soft wax, so visit a spa that uses it.

Take an over-the-counter pain reliever. About an hour before your appointment, take an Advil, Tylenol, or other pain reliever.

Breathe. It can be tempting to hold your breath, but breathing in and out helps reduce the pain. Take a deep breath in when the wax goes on, then breathe out when your esthetician gives it a yank.

Know which parts are most sensitive. You wouldn't expect it, but having hair pulled from the lower abdomen area is more painful than it is around the vaginal opening.

Turn your head and cough. An esthetician at Bliss taught us this trick: when the wax is about to be ripped off, cough. Sounds weird, but it distracts from the pain.

Never Skip These Steps in Your Nighttime Routine

Never Skip These Steps in Your Nighttime Routine

Sure, you’ve got your morning routine down pat, whether it means waking up at 5 a.m. to perfect your curls or getting ready in 10 minutes flat before you fly out the door. With your morning regimen perfected, we have to ask: How streamlined is your nighttime ritual? Whether your current before-bed routine is as simple as brushing your teeth and hopping into bed or you use this time for a little peace and quiet with a good book or your fave late-night talk show, it’s important to cover your bases by never skipping these important steps.

Say goodnight to your phone

Whether catching up with a bestie or saying sweet dreams to your BF, end the conversations before you complete the rest of your nightly routine. Pressing your face against a phone that’s touched zillions of things throughout the day will expose it to dirt and germs, erasing all of that hard work you put into prepping your skin for bedtime. Sleeping on not-so-clean sheets and pillowcases will have a similar effect too, so make sure to tidy up your space and ditch the tech before bed.

Remove makeup and cleanse skin

Unless you have a super minimal beauty routine, makeup removal isn’t just a swipe of a cotton ball across your eyes. Make sure to remove all your makeup (despite how tired you are!). Not doing so can lead to breakouts and blemishes as early as the next day.  Additionally, makeup remover isn’t a cure-all for a bed-ready face; you shouldn’t skip your nightly cleanse either. Try giving your face a once-over with cleansing wipes like The Body Shop Tea Tree Cleansing Wipes before giving it a second wash with a gentle cleanser like Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash.

Moisturize your face (and body)

Evenings are a time of renewal for skin — there’s a reason for all those night creams on the market. While you sleep, skin regenerates and heals itself, so never skip the moisturizer. Try a replenishing cream that will fight signs of aging like L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Cell Renewal Night Cream.
Also, this treatment shouldn’t stop at your face. To help the rest of your body renew itself while you catch some Zzs, apply a body butter (like The Body Shop Almond Body Butter) or cream before you hop in the sack.

Brush and floss

It goes without saying that no woman wants yellow teeth, cavities, or bad breath, yet not every woman follows this important step every night either. Flossing is OK to skip every now and then (as long as it doesn’t become a habit), but skipping the nightly brush is inviting your dinner to sit on your teeth for the next eight hours. Ew!

Take time to unwind

This is probably the most-skipped step in our nightly rituals because it can’t be rushed, but taking time to relax and de-stress is vital for health and beauty. Make sure to unplug for 30 minutes or so before hitting the hay, and you’ll wake up looking and feeling more refreshed. Read all about how to turn your bedroom into the ultimate sleep spot here.

5 Bad Beauty Habits to Break Now

5 Bad Beauty Habits to Break Now

We understand most of your beauty regimen is not up for debate. We would never try to come between your nightly Clarisonic sessions or weekly in-shower deep conditioning treatments. But other parts of your tried and true beauty routine may have strayed off course over the years. We won’t mention the dangers of popping pimples or falling asleep with your makeup on—we know you’ve been getting that since high school. However, there are a few bad beauty habits you may have picked up since graduation that need to be broken now.

The Problem: Focusing Only on the Face

Why it’s a habit: You already spend countless precious moments in the bathroom slathering your face with every beautifying potion you can find (isn’t that enough?).
Why you need to quit: Aging is not limited to the skin between our hairline and jawline. Neglecting your neck and décolletage leaves that skin unprotected against damaging environmental factors and can cause the region south of your chin to age quicker than your face. Remember, no area of skin is cancer-proof–with every slather of moisturizer and SPF, you’re not just warding off age spots and thinning skin, you’re protecting your health.

The Problem: Working Out in Makeup

Why it’s a habit: You rush in to the gym straight from work and just want to get your sweat on. Plus, you never know who you might see, right?
Why you need to quit: Rounding out mile three with mascara running down your cheek is never a good look. Yes, getting a regular sweat session in is great for your skin, but makeup blocks pores and prevents sweat from escaping, which traps bacteria and leads to breakouts. Besides, no one wants to look over and see your face smeared all over your gym towel. Luckily there is an easy fix for this one, run a makeup removing towelette across your face before you hop on the treadmill. MDC Tip: L’Oréal Ideal Clean All Skin Types Makeup Removing Towelettes are our gym bag staple.

The Problem: Tweezing Ingrown Hairs

Why it’s a habit: Because you can feel it, you can see it, and you know it’s there!
Why you need to quit: The truth is no matter how determined you are, you will never get that hair. Digging for it, however, will lead to scarring and possibly infection—certainly not the satisfaction you seek. Instead, exfoliate regularly and apply a pimple treatment with salicylic acid (like SkinCeuticals Blemish + Age Defense or Ole Henriksen Roll On Acne Clearing Solution). If you see a head start to appear, make an appointment with a pro to finish the job.

The Problem: Messing with Your Hair When Wet

Why it’s a habit: Your post shower rituals are pretty much set in stone at this point:towel dry, brush, blow dry.
Why you need to quit: Twisting your locks up in a towel is a recipe for disaster. Wet hair is far more delicate than dry hair, making prone to breakage and damage. It needs to be treated with extra care. That means no vigorous rubbing with the terry cloth, no wrapping it up tightly, no forceful hair whipping, and no brushing. Save your strands and swap your bath towel for a gentler option. Use an old, worn-in cotton t-shirt to gently squeeze and blot water from your hair, section by section. And keep the brush away until at least 90% dry. If you must detangle, make a wide-tooth comb your go-to tool.

The Problem: Rubbing Your Eyes

Why it’s a habit: Allergies, itchy contacts, just because… You don’t know–it’s just a habit, OK?
Why you need to quit: The skin around your eyes is very delicate. In the short term, all that rubbing can cause inflammation. In the long term, it damages collagen and elastin, making it harder for your beloved eye cream to the job you want it to do. For a quick fix, moisturize and soothe dry eyes with a few drops of unpreserved artificial tears. And keep the skin around your eye properly hydrated with a mild eye cream. MDC Tip: be prepared for the day and pop a pot of Kiehl’s Abyssine Eye Cream + in your purse.
