The Busy Girl’s Guide to Oops! I Overslept Beauty

Sure, we’d all love to wake up pretty, but that requires some forethought, the details of which are easy to overlook. Every now and then you find yourself in this nightmare of a situation: you roll over in bed only to find the clock on your nightstand is indicating you have about 15 minutes before you’re supposed to be at work. It happens to the best of us, but it’s important to have a plan. For all our busy girls out there, we’ve put together your guide to ‘Oops! I overslept!’ beauty.

Skip the Nonessentials
Unfortunately, today is the not the day you’ll be spending quality time in with your Clarisonic. Splash your face with water and move on. Your typical moisturizer, sunscreen, foundation routine–also not in the cards. Grab a product that does the job of all three. Enter every busy girls best friend: BB cream. We love Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty Balm, Too Faced Tinted Beauty Balm, and Lancôme Bienfait Teinté Beauty Balm.

Prioritize
Are you going to be bent out of shape all day if your hair looks disheveled? Or are you going to feel naked if you don’t apply an adequate amount of makeup? You’re not going to have time to tackle both situations, so pick the highest priority and go with the bare minimum on the other.

Hair
If hair tops your list, bust out the dry shampoo and get busy. Blast the roots and a little bit all over, let that sit for a few minutes (while you brush your teeth – you’re multi-tasking here!), and then muss it up with your fingers. Try one of our faves: Matrix Clean Remix Instant Dry Shampoo or Tresemmé Fresh Start Smoothing Dry Shampoo. You’ll be going for a slightly undone look today.

To make your bedhead look more a little model-off-duty, add a few quick curls–two or three on each side (in any direction, all directions, it really doesn’t matter) should do it. Give your mane one final shake and a 360 blast of hairspray, and you’re done. If you have short hair, just grab your favorite styling wax, paste or cream and add some texture all over. Got bangs? Don’t worry; you can style them in under a minute with a few blasts of the blow dryer.

Makeup
If makeup takes priority, ignore all of the above and twist your hair into low pony or bun. Oversleeping should mean you awake well rested and bright-eyed…if only that was the case. Luckily, the beauty gods invented eyelash curlers. Curl your lashes and add mascara to look awake instantly. Define the eyes, but save time by choosing the quickest eyeliner application. Simply tight line the inside waterline of your upper eyelashes and skip any additional steps.

Filling in your brows can take some time. Instead of hitting every space end to end, just fill in the highest point of arch (where you want the most definition anyway) and brush through brows with eyebrow gel to lock your shape in place. Applying blush takes all of ten seconds and it makes a world of difference. Add some warmth to your face and you’re ready for the day.

Shift the Focus
When all else fails, distract ‘em. So your hair’s not looking so hot today, who’s going to notice with that smashing red lipstick you’re wearing? Not dolled up in your usual winged liner and lush lashes, throw on that bright blouse or spotlight-stealing accessory and no one will be the wiser.
