Never Skip These Steps in Your Nighttime Routine

Never Skip These Steps in Your Nighttime Routine

Sure, you’ve got your morning routine down pat, whether it means waking up at 5 a.m. to perfect your curls or getting ready in 10 minutes flat before you fly out the door. With your morning regimen perfected, we have to ask: How streamlined is your nighttime ritual? Whether your current before-bed routine is as simple as brushing your teeth and hopping into bed or you use this time for a little peace and quiet with a good book or your fave late-night talk show, it’s important to cover your bases by never skipping these important steps.

Say goodnight to your phone

Whether catching up with a bestie or saying sweet dreams to your BF, end the conversations before you complete the rest of your nightly routine. Pressing your face against a phone that’s touched zillions of things throughout the day will expose it to dirt and germs, erasing all of that hard work you put into prepping your skin for bedtime. Sleeping on not-so-clean sheets and pillowcases will have a similar effect too, so make sure to tidy up your space and ditch the tech before bed.

Remove makeup and cleanse skin

Unless you have a super minimal beauty routine, makeup removal isn’t just a swipe of a cotton ball across your eyes. Make sure to remove all your makeup (despite how tired you are!). Not doing so can lead to breakouts and blemishes as early as the next day.  Additionally, makeup remover isn’t a cure-all for a bed-ready face; you shouldn’t skip your nightly cleanse either. Try giving your face a once-over with cleansing wipes like The Body Shop Tea Tree Cleansing Wipes before giving it a second wash with a gentle cleanser like Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash.

Moisturize your face (and body)

Evenings are a time of renewal for skin — there’s a reason for all those night creams on the market. While you sleep, skin regenerates and heals itself, so never skip the moisturizer. Try a replenishing cream that will fight signs of aging like L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Cell Renewal Night Cream.
Also, this treatment shouldn’t stop at your face. To help the rest of your body renew itself while you catch some Zzs, apply a body butter (like The Body Shop Almond Body Butter) or cream before you hop in the sack.

Brush and floss

It goes without saying that no woman wants yellow teeth, cavities, or bad breath, yet not every woman follows this important step every night either. Flossing is OK to skip every now and then (as long as it doesn’t become a habit), but skipping the nightly brush is inviting your dinner to sit on your teeth for the next eight hours. Ew!

Take time to unwind

This is probably the most-skipped step in our nightly rituals because it can’t be rushed, but taking time to relax and de-stress is vital for health and beauty. Make sure to unplug for 30 minutes or so before hitting the hay, and you’ll wake up looking and feeling more refreshed. Read all about how to turn your bedroom into the ultimate sleep spot here.
